We’re Locked In. Are you?
Welcome to the Green Room
Finally, spring is here. Fingers crossed it sticks around. With nicer weather and the slow dissipation of seasonal depression comes outdoor shoots, natural lighting, beautiful backdrops, and of course ND filters because the sun isn't always your friend.
So, we have a blog now. What's the purpose of this? Probably a few things.
First, keeping you up to date with the business itself. Simple as that. Second, I think this is a great opportunity to share ideas and thoughts on production directly with the people FG hopes to serve: creatives, business owners, hobbyists, potential crew members, and whoever else stumbles into the room. Third, I want some of these posts to be relevant to anyone interested in production, whether you're an entry level editor looking for your footing or someone with a wealth more experience than me. Bottom line, I hope this blog is a resource.
That was always the intention with Frosted Green. I started FG in 2014 because I couldn't land any production jobs out of college due to a lack of experience. Looking back, yeah, that was fair. I probably trusted my college a little too much to prepare me for the real world of media. I didn't even know how to wrap a cable properly — I figured that one out the same day I learned how unions worked.
My solution was to make my own experience and learn by doing. Did it solve all my problems? No. A buddy of mine, Frank, had to slowly walk me through the cable thing. But it taught me how to work with clients, how to buy gear based on a shoot's specific needs, and how to edit across different types of productions because I was jumping on any project that would have me. Eventually that snowballed into working with a wide variety of clients across everything from music videos to broadcast news to feature documentaries.
So if this little Green Room can offer some insight along the way, I'm happy to share whatever I can and hopefully build a bit of a community here.
I'll keep an eye on comments and respond as frequently as I can. Thoughts, questions, and suggestions are all welcome. Anything hateful or derogatory gets removed, but I don't think that'll be an issue with this crowd.
Thanks for being here, whether you read every word or just skimmed to this line. See you soon.
